The Bel-Aire Diner at 31-91 21st
St., Astoria capped an extensive
renovation project with a grand
reopening last Wednesday. Among
those present were former City
Council Speaker Peter Vallone
Sr. and Eartha Washington,
president of the Astoria Civic
Association. The Rev. John
Antonopoulos of St. Demetrios
Greek Orthodox Church, Astoria,
added his blessings to the grand
opening proceedings.
The Bel-Aire stayed open 24
hours a day while all the
rebuilding was going on, helping
to keep the "Best in New York"
rating it earned in a Daily News
poll for two years in
succession.
The renovations reached into
every corner of the restaurant,
including preparation, cooking
and serving areas, as well as
restrooms and dining rooms.
Owner Archie Dellaportas noted
that the diner's regular
customers kept coming in even
while the renovations were at
their peak and expressed great
appreciation for the loyalty
they showed. He intends to offer
the same great food, outstanding
service and bargain prices that
earned the Bel-Aire its
accolades previously. Delivery
and catering orders are welcome
as well.
