Hellenic Immersion Program Graduates 54
With City Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr. a new alumna of the Dancing and the English Language and Citizenship Programs of the Hellenic Immersion Program of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York holds her certificate.
Students, friends and families attended the Hellenic Immersion Program of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York annual graduation ceremony on Monday, June 4. City Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr., Dr. Mary Marangos, representing Congressmember Carolyn Maloney, and Irene Stathos, representing Assemblymember Michael Gianaris, were also present.  

Hellenic Immersion Program Director Jeannie Kouros thanked all those who participated in this year's programs, in reference to the English Language & Citizen and Dancing Programs that the Hellenic Immersion Program has been operating for seven years. She also thanked Vallone for his tireless efforts and support in making these programs possible for the hundreds of immigrants in the community who strive to learn English and become U.S. citizens, noting that his dedication to the Hellenic Immersion Program helped increase the organization's educational budget to

Graduates of the Dancing and the English Language and Citizenship Programs of the Hellenic Immersion Program of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York hold their certificates at graduation ceremonies June 4.
50,500. Hellenic Immersion Program Executive Director Demetrios K. Demetrios, congratulated all graduating students for their hard work and dedication to eventually achieving the American dream and becoming U.S. citizens.  

Kouros and Demetrios, assisted by Vallone, Stathos and Marangos, gave out the certificates to the 31 students who graduated from the English Language and Citizenship Program and the 23 who graduated from the Dancing Program. The English Language and Citizenship Program provides English lessons, immigration assistance and immigration drives, the purpose of which are to assist immigrants of the community to apply for U.S. citizenship. Along with instruction in the dances, the Dancing Program provides the cultural and historical highlights of the dances and their significance. The Dancing Program teaches elementary and advanced dances, representative of several cultures, among them Greek, Italian, Hispanic, Russian, Bengali, Chinese, ballroom and Latin dancing.
